The Florida A&M Rattler Baseball program is a Division I program located in Tallahassee, Florida, and competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The SWAC consists of 12 teams that are divided into a Western and Eastern Division, with FAMU competing in the Eastern Division. FAMU made the transition to the SWAC from the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) in 2022. In 2023, and only the second season since joining the SWAC, FAMU Baseball won the SWAC Championship and played in the third NCAA Regional Tournament in school history. The only other two NCAA Regional Tournament appearances for the Rattlers were in 2016 and 2019, both while FAMU was a member of the MEAC.
FAMU Baseball has a rich tradition of baseball excellence! Major League Baseball (MLB) greats like Hal McRae, Vince Coleman, and Marquis Grissom have all worn the Orange and Green. However, the most recognizable name to wear the Rattler uniform is MLB great and Hall of Fame star, Andre Dawson. The Rattlers play every year in the Andre Dawson Classic, ran by MLB and named after the FAMU alum.
Along with playing in the SWAC, FAMU Baseball annually plays one of the toughest out-of-conference schedules in the country, with recent games playeded against past College World Series Champions, the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Gators. FAMU Baseball's out-of-conference schedule has been ranked as high as #3 nationally.
